New Life.

I feel that I am really blessed, because I manage to rent a comfortable room near my workplace just a week after I started working. It only takes me 20 minutes to get to work, which really makes my life easier. Sure $650 is not cheap, but it comes with air-con and included everything from electricity to internet connection. And the room is spacious and well maintained by the landlord. Considering all aspects especially the location, I think it's a really great room.

But without any friends here, my life besides working is really lonely. Sometimes I didn't have to make a voice for whole morning or whole evening because there is not even work related stuff to talk about for a newbie like me. Sitting in front of computer as soon as I got home like the old days really makes me miss my Melbourne life with friends. I wish I have some friends to share a house together, making the place I call home in this strange place feel warmer and livelier...

That said, it's not miserable at all. Just a little lonely. I am glad and much appreciate to have this opportunity to begin a new life with a job exactly I was hoping for. More importantly being paid in SGD. Even happier to have a lovely girlfriend who webcam with me at night to cure my loneliness.

Love Life : )

New Work.

Very fortunately, I got the Design Engineer job in Panasonic AVC Singapore. And hence started my new life in Singapore. Job wise, I appreciate it a lot. Even though everyone said Panasonic is not the best company to work with. Be it because of their long working hours or their shrinking market values. But after working for a week, it does seem like the kind of work that I would enjoy. To be honest, not that I mind working overtime because I will just be sitting on my desk for my work anyway..

As design engineer, our job is to draw the structures of electronics appliances. Sure it still involves many paperworks, but definitely gave me better impression than my previous job. I have some good colleagues too in the office. But the downside being all are seniors. Guess that the situation for a shrinking company - less new blood. Not a big deal in work, but it makes me harder to get to know new friends here in Singapore as working is my only window to the society.

I Quitted My First Job After Two Days

So I went Unisteel to start my first job in my life. But after two days, I regretted and decided to quit the job. Yes, it is impulsive and immature. I always believed that I will be more fond to raw material process than product assembly because assembly seem very monotonous and processing is more technical.

But after two days in Unisteel, I realised that I am wrong. I don't understand myself enough. For someone who has been living in a greenhouse, process environment is too hard to getting used to. Call me racist, furthermore being a lone Chinese in the whole department made me felt worst. I compared the job with the experience as intern in Flextronics which do product assembly, I decided to pursue the route of assembly field.

I don't know if my act was rational thinking, or I am too picky and refuse to face the hardship as an adult regardless what job I get. But I gave myself a chance. I have regretful moments in life because afraid to act and I hope this is not another time.

Luckily right after I resigned from my Unisteel, my brother's friend brought good news from Panasonic that the mechanical manager has approved me and submitted to HR. I guess I still need to get approval from Singapore's Minister of Manpower because the Panasonic still yet to give me a call. But it's a step forward. On the other hand, surprisingly Sony Singapore also called me 5 weeks after my resume submission. It's a manufacturing job, but it has me excited enough to work in Singapore and more importantly working for Sony being a fan of the brand. Besides that, I still have another interview appointment in Dyson Malaysia which is well know to be a good company.

Afterall I am really a fortunate person to have these opportunity. And again, hopefully Panasonic will call me soon.

Start Working On Monday

Today is another bad day. The feeling of given hope and taken away.

When I got job offer from Unisteel, I accepted with open heart. Although it's a Process Engineer post, not exactly what I'm hoping for... At least making mini sized metal parts sound interesting I guess. And the pay is not bad at all for fresh graduate.

But then I was given hope to interview at Panasonic Singapore as Design Engineer, which to be honest my dream job. It's not about the salary, but mechanical design is really much more interesting for me. I'm all hyped for this job. My excitement multiplies when my brother's friend who introduced me to this vacancy told me that the design department's manager who interviewed me said that I will most probably being hired.

But now after 7 working days, I still not receiving any news from Panasonic. And Unisteel work will be starting on Monday. I don't know if I still have chance for Panasonic. Base on my previous interviews, if I have not received reply within a week usually means I was rejected. Who knows if the manager was being honest that he really gonna hire me, or he just feeling impolite to blatantly tell that I was rejected?

It doesn't means Unisteel job is not good. I just really hate the feeling of gaining hope but then losing it again... Anyway, I will be start working as Trainee at Unisteel. At the same time, I hope that Panasonic just having some delay and will contact me next week to offer me the job.

Hello Blog, Long Time No See.

Photobucket

It has been really a long time since I wrote a blog post. Somehow I've become more and more lazy in writing stuffs. I spent some time reading back the blog posts, and realised I really have to keep updating. It's a dairy, helping me to remind myself of my old self and my experiences.

Hello my blog. I am back.

Last Sem Break

...

This is one sad blog post. Last semester of my uni starts tomorrow, which means today is the end of the last semester break in my life.

Semester break - the time you have no goal and spend time slacking and wandering around. The happiest period of life. Meaningless but feels so good. Maybe this sounds really irresponsible and childish, but I really gonna miss these moments...

Farewell sem break. Wish me get a job soon and have a wonderful life as a working adult...

Friends, I almost burnt the microwave!

It's as idiotic as I always be, I forgot to fill water before sending the pasta into microwave and got away from kitchen. By the time I smell burnt, the kitchen had flooded with thick smoke. Everything in house smell burnt and the container is gone. Luckily the microwave still functional.

Sorry to my house-mates and owner of microwave, Teck Hong.

Ok, for your amusements

A Washed Chinese New Year

Photobucket

So after 2 years forced to stay in Melbourne for summer semesters, finally I'm able to enjoy a Chinese New Year with my family again. However, this was not an enjoyable one because of another big flood happened exactly on Chinese New Year.

Fortune enough, my grandparents' home is not affected. But the road to town was cut-off by flood. The worse, electricity was cut-off too for safety reason because another village nearby which shares the same source is flooded.

Even the new year eve "团圆饭" was cancelled because my family was the only ones that made it home on that day, by leaving our car behind and walk across flooded water. I regret that I was unable to take a photo when we walking across the flooded road as my hands were full of packages. And because of the flood, there was almost non visiting between relatives too.

This year, was the least festival atmosphere Chinese New Year I have experienced...

Photobucket

However, there was one thing good about that actually. Without television, computer and quite bad reception of mobile phone, everyone spent more time gathering and interacting each others. I'm this year's new year was the one I talked the most to my cousins whom I usually meet once a year. Like the advertisement I watched awhile ago: Disconnect to Connect!

A Hectic Day In Work..

Photobucket

Photobucket

Diagrams for easier understanding.

For few days, I have been working under the young engineer again for a new prototype test production. So today I went work casually as usually as I will just be doing some "lite" works, but soon greeted by my Ast. Manager that the Engineer I followed went M.C. today and he asked me to "look after" his station. Heck I know how and what to do!

Prototype production project will include an engineer for my company while overlook by an engineering from HP for each station. So my Initial worry was no idea how to face the picky HP's engineer. But soon it turned into a "shitstorm" when HP team arrived and told that the engineer for my station, also went M.C.!

The worst of the worst, today was the last day to get all units from my station to be done. So for whole day, I had been bombarded by management questions from the act leader, and technical questions from operators which both I had no idea at all! The worst part is when I had to rush up and make request from other department as act engineer when I know nothing at all...

There were some jerks I met, but I'm really grateful that most people are helpful knowing i am a practical engineers. Engineers from other stations helped to troubleshoot, a supervisor who wasn't in my station at all came helped to speed up operators work, and few operators that teach me things or show me directions. All actually, not a bad experience at all. This might be the day I learnt the most stuffs from my internship...

Practical - 1 Month In

Photobucket
Drawn by WhyWai out of boredom in office.

4 weeks since I started my practical in Flextronics. My post is actually a Manufacturing engineer post, who responsible for the production of HP huge printer, called plotter.

Photobucket
Yes, this big.

So far I am quite disappointed on this practical job as I don't really learnt anything technical related. Given that I am doing practical for only 3 months, my supervisor doesn't seem interested to teach me anything. For weeks, I have been passing around by my supervisor to his engineers just to do some 'office boy' works. There were even few days that I just sitting in office doing nothing whole day when my supervisor is too busy to bother about me.

Worse, I only got limited access to filters active internet! Erm, Actually me as practical can't even access internet. But luckily my supervisor gave me his username password to help him do some paperworks in 1st week. So I have been using his account to sur,: Google news and Wikipedia... =. I hope my company

My only good experience was in 3rd weeks when I was asked to assist a young engineer close to my age. Maybe he also been through this practical thing, so he is the first one to actually explain to me what he's working on and give a task to take responsible. Not just ask me to print material list or take photos of part.

Well, at least I did learnt 2 things about myself:
- I'm having a hard time speaking and understanding Malay, seriously. When I tried to say "You email to me", it became "you emel ke saya". =.= Luckily, my supervisor talk English to me.
- I intend to smile stupidly when people ask me something that I'm not clear. Which make me really look like an idiot.

Ordered a game online from far Europe due to it's cheap price. And received confirmation email from the store that my order has been dispatched today. Checked the netitzens discussion and informed that the delivery time varied from 1 week to 6 weeks.

Let's see how my luck goes this time. Finger crossed.

Khalil Concert

"You fly here, and I'll go with u."

That's what I told Genieve, when she asked us for Khalil Fong concert. I didn't know that she was serious about that.. So in the end, she came and we go for it. My 1st concert ever in my life.

Photobucket
Palais Theater, venue of the concert

I would say that attending a small scale concert in theater is far more my cup of tea than a large concert in stadium. I believe that I'll bee fainted the moment I see thousands of people in stadium.

Photobucket
Fiona & Khalil

Quite a fun experience. But I have to confess that I hardly listen to songs from both the stars of the night. In fact I think there were only 2 or 3 songs that I actually heard before. XD

Photobucket
Scale on our view of the people on stage.

Our seats were quite far behind, but I think it's good enough since I still manage to see the faces on stage. It's fun that 4 of us who went were all 1st timer. And were "wowed" when we saw people in front of us went well-prepared with binocular and super zooming camera.

Photobucket
Clearest shot of Khalil we got.

ps: A busy playing weekends with Genieve visit to Melbourne. I enjoyed a lot. Looking forward for another fun weekends.

Skin-Off

Photobucket

This is the consequence for not applying sunblock when off to swim in the beach. I usually fine without sunblock by wearing a tee. This time I wore a singlet, and this is the consequence. Looks like some alien/mutant movie.

Went Lang Tengah Island, stayed in a small resort called Redang Lang. Good resort. I rate it higher than the one I went last time in Redang Island because they are more friendly and less commercial.

Great sand, but the beach is too full of shell and corpse. A pain to walk. Beaches in Sabah still best in Malaysia. :p

Dragonboat Festival

Rice Dumpling + Tea = love

If I'm not wrong, today should be our Mid Autumn Festival. Yesterday, we were treated with rice dumplings by TeckHong's auntie which I really appreciated because I love rice dumplings. Really miss the variety of dumplings back in home that only pop out during what I know as dumpling festival instead of Dragon-boat. Argh, got myself hungry thinking about them...

Once again, I'm benefit under TeckHong's "One Dragon" service. It's glad to be her housemate.

Temporary Resident

Recently our Latrobe hideout became even more lively with an addition of temporary member - Genieve from Adelaide, friend of Darryl. Temporary member as in she just arrived in Melbourne and still searching for a shelter.

To my surprise, Genieve likes to take photo a lot. This brings up memories in Inti life with camera. Miss the days fooling around with Joey and ThongChin where stupid photos were taken almost everyday no matter we are studying, eating or traveling.

Losser...

Photobucket

Yes, I did it again... This time, lost my mobile phone. Sony Ericsson W610 - simply my favorite mobile up to date. I did consider just keep on using that phone for years despite it's not a high-end mobile. Too bad, I lost it on last Wednesday.

I really hate myself for being so careless. Seriously. I always remind myself of 3 important things whenever I'm going out: Wallet, Keys & Mobile. Sarcastically, I lost each of them respectively each semester in this one and a half year.

Experience this time is much more frustrated than the lost of wallet and keys last year. Because I actually realised I dropped my phone just a few minutes after walked from tram stop to the elevator of my apartment. I actually run along the tram route from my stop until waterfront city to chase back the tram. I did saw the tram while I'm chasing but couldn't managed to catch it. If only the tram stops distant is nearer as stops in city center... I should able to retrieve my phone.

Sigh~~~

Silent Night

Photobucket

Trying to take a photo of the night view from my balcony. Unfortunately my mobile phone is not capable for decent night vision.

This is the 1st time I live so high away from ground and with a big floor-to-ceiling window. Maybe 8th floor is not really that 'tall' but it's surely something new for me. Certainly 8th floor is no way tall enough for a city landscape view. But just gazing at the night make me claim.

Alone in house may be lonely at times, but the silence is very comfortable too. Especially in front of the night. In hours, my housemates are coming to join me in this apartment. Farewell my lonely yet silent life. I'll definitely miss you sometimes...

New Apartment.

Photobucket

It was a hard month. Home alone, house in mess and no internet connection.

The first time I stepped in this new apartment, it's 5a.m. in the morning and in dark. Hong Hong told me to stay in airport until sun rises because there's no electricity in our apartment yet, but I just couldn't stay in airport any longer after sitting half sleep there for 5 hours. The apartment was darker than I expected. Luckily I've always bring along a torchlight which allowed me look for a place in the mess to rest myself. Opened up windows, I lied on the sofa and eventually fall sleep. That's my 1st day here...

It's really suck when you are alone in house and furthermore without internet. Here I have to give a very big credit to beloved Sony who decided to drop his PS3 price on a right timing which save me from infinite boredom. Haha... It's suck without internet, but it's fantastic with PS3! I'm really glad that I bought a PS3... XD

At first I was worried that here will be less convenient as it's a bit far from city center. But I was so wrong... This location is wonderful! Having tram station right in front with Melbourne City Circle that provide free transportation to city center every 10 minutes. Coles supermarket also just located only 100m away. How do I put it... As expected from Hong Hong who rent this place..

I'm glad that everything is fine, at least for now and with internet established. The rest I'll just wait until both my reliable housemates to come back. Let's have fun here!

**Apology for random Genie photo spam as header. XD It's a replacement because I can't transfer photos from my mobile. Want to change a new mobile asap!
